Shaw healthcare was one many care providers across the UK which took part in National Care Home Open Day on Saturday 21st April.

The day is aimed at encouraging local people to visit care homes in their communities and for care homes to take the opportunity to celebrate the positive relationships between residents and their families, friends and staff, as well as their neighbours in the surrounding area.

Residents and visitors enjoyed a host of activities across Shaw services including parties, coffee mornings and arts and craft sessions. This year’s event coincided with Her Majesty The Queen’s birthday and there were lots of royal celebrations taking place to mark the occasion. Croft Meadow care home in Steyning welcomed many visitors including local parish and district councillors; both visitors and residents enjoyed a ride around town in an old London Bus.

The Mayor of Camden was guest of honor at Wellesley Road care home, while at Lancum House in Wellingborough, residents welcomed the Salvation Army Brass Band in the morning followed by more musical entertainment from local singer, Richard Devereaux, in the afternoon. Their guests included local Mayor and Mayoress, Councillors Malcolm and Veronica Waters.

The weather was glorious in most parts and those at Burley’s Wood home in Crawley made the most of the sunshine with a garden party featuring a performance from The Double D’s, whose lead singer is the home’s very own Activity Champion, Donna Culley. Others in attendance included The Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Brian Quinn and his wife, along with Borough Councillor Duncan Crow.

Suzanne Hughes, Deputy CEO for Shaw healthcare, said: “Our doors are always open, but Care Home Open Day is a great opportunity to welcome visitors from the local community to see the great care delivered at our homes and to meet the residents, relatives and employees."
