A local resident has celebrated her 100th birthday at a Raunds care home.
Edith Partrick celebrated the milestone by opening a telegram from the Queen, before enjoying a buffet lunch at Ashfield House, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, Mrs Partrick went to school in Higham and later in nearby Rushden. Her first job was with WW Chamberlin, making heels and ‘stiffeners’ for shoes. She met her future husband, Arthur, in 1935 at the age of 16 and they married five years later. They enjoyed more than 40 years of marriage and raised three children, Susan, Ruth and Mark.
Mrs Partrick still recalls her courting days, including clandestine meetings with her future husband “under the big walnut tree” by her parents’ house. She claims her secret to a long life is “never sitting idle” and “living at Ashfield House”.
Manager at the Shaw healthcare-run home, Julie Burn, commented;
“It’s wonderful to be able to mark such a significant milestone and give Edith and her family the chance to celebrate together. After moving here in 2011, she has actively participated in residents’ meetings and raised money for the donations fund by knitting dolls and animals. We wish her many happy returns on her centenary.”
