Market Lodge
This morning residents at Market Lodge participated in games day.
A variety of games were offered, such as pineapple smash, ring toss, golf and darts! Both residents and staff joined in and laughed as things became competitive.
Dave enjoyed playing catch, Mel was pleased to land a hoop on the ring toss & Wendy loved knocking over the pineapple in pineapple smash. A morning full of positivity & fun!
Market Lodge celebrated Halloween this afternoon by indulging in some cake, listening to classic Halloween themed songs & singing along. Market Lodge’s Halloween table was decorated with handmade crafts residents had made and had received many compliments on. Everyone had fun & engaged.
Residents also chose to have Halloween face paint applied, choosing the colour they liked & design they wanted.
Market Lodge is ready for Halloween! Their display comprises of homemade crafts, carved pumpkins & mini pumpkin lights. Now all that’s left to do is celebrate on Thursday with a Halloween themed party!
Market Lodge thoroughly enjoys a game of bingo, especially when there are prizes to be won!
This afternoon we had 3 winners who each loved their prizes. Andrew who likes a good woolly hat ready for winter, Angie an avid paperweight collector with her swan paper weight and Rose with her decorative stickers she likes to use for her card making. Smiles all round!
Market Lodge was visited by G Fitness this week.
Residents enjoyed dancing to music with foam tubes, using foam tubes to play balloon tennis and having a few competitive games of floating football!
The class made exercise fun for residents and they all shared they were excited for the next one! Thank you G Fitness.
This afternoon, residents from Market Lodge were visited by the Ledbury Flower Farmer, Rozanne. Rose, Dave and Angie enjoyed creating their own flower arrangement to admire and display in their bedrooms.
On Saturday, Dave went and watched his local team Ledbury, play at the football club. Dave witnessed 6 of the 12 goals Ledbury scored to win the game! Dave cheered the players on pitch side and had a photo with Harry. Harry plays for Ledbury and also works in the kitchen downstairs. Dave thoroughly enjoyed himself and would love to again!
Market Lodge enjoyed games of bingo together this afternoon, each resident was pleased to win a game & receive their individual prize! Prizes ranged from bags of chocolate to bath bombs & paperweights!
Residents from Market Lodge enjoyed a rainbow tea party this afternoon. Everyone had a mug that they had designed themselves, latte coffees were enjoyed, as well as a selection of cake. Many enjoyed trying to break open the pinata the most though! Fun all round!
Residents at Market Lodge were visited by therapy dog Skye and therapy pony Odin, both animals brought happiness and smiles to everyone. Wendy even had Skye join her on her bed. What a lovely way to spend a Friday!
Earlier in July Allan from Market Lodge celebrated his birthday, surrounded by his peers. Allan was pleased with his gifts. He received two t-shirts, one of which had his favourite band on and the other had a funny slogan which read ‘as cool as a cucumber’, which he found amusing. Allan even gave his peers and staff a fashion show by trying them on!’
On Thursday 27th June, everyone at Market Lodge celebrated National Sunglasses Day by wearing their wacky sunglasses, blowing bubbles from an ice cream and hiring an ice cream van for the afternoon! Everyone enjoyed an ice cream in the sun.
Today we celebrated our long serving team members from Ledbury Nursing home, Ledbury ICU and Market Lodge. All together there was a combined total of 110 years. It was a lovely afternoon with some fab entertainment from Fuzzy Uncertainty.
Thank you to everybody that came a long to join in with the fun.
Residents yesterday celebrated ‘National Biscuit Day’ by engaging in a fun quiz all about biscuits!
Biscuits were then shared around everyone and the winner of the quiz won a biscuit mug!
Dave, Mel & Allan have made the most of the warmer weather and taken a trip on the mini bus to the pub to enjoy a pint & a bite to eat.
Mel and Rosie both ventured into town today to enjoy the sunshine. Mel opted to kick back and relax! Rosie chose to have a latte and chat! Smiles all round!
Residents from Market Lodge visited a local pub to celebrate Andrew’s 70th Birthday yesterday afternoon. Andrew opened his presents and cards from his family & everyone at Market Lodge, he was chuffed to see he had a new shirt! Andrew raised his non-alcoholic lager and said ‘Cheers!’, with his friends Dave and Mel and support staff. Andrew expressed he had a great day.
Rose from Market Lodge enjoyed a red berry herbal tea at Coffee No.1 this morning. Rose chose to scratch off her scratch cards whilst there. Rose still displayed a smile despite not winning.
Market Lodge residents enjoyed a very Merry Christmas Day, opening their presents together and sharing smiles and laughs over a lovely Christmas lunch.
Residents and their families & friends enjoyed Christmas themed games, listening to Christmas songs and delving into the buffet. Lots of fun all round!
David, Andrew & Fiona helped to decorate the multiple trees Market Lodge, Ledbury has in their lounge, in preparation for Christmas.
On Sunday David from Market Lodge, Ledbury crossed off an event which has been at top of his bucket list.
David visited Anfield to watch Liverpool vs Aston Villa. Soaking up the great atmosphere, from the pitch side seat, David witnessed Liverpool win the game 3-0.
David also got to meet footballing legends Ron Whelan & David James.

December 2022 Employee Of The Month has been awarded to Dinna for supporting residents during high sickness. Thank you Dinna for your care and compassion to both service users and staff, you are a star.
Market Lodge’s resident Dave went shopping at co-op for snacks. These snacks were enjoyed later that day whilst watching the World Cup.
Market Lodge’s resident Lesley enjoyed a garden centre trip with her sister Heather. Lesley bought a decoration for her bedroom along with some cosy slipper socks.
Charlotte has received employee of the month, in recognition of all her hard work in helping us to maintain our Headway Accreditation. Presents were chosen and presented by Angela, we are all very proud of you Charlotte!
Market Lodge resident David was out doing some shopping and saw a fun cushion that he knew fellow resident Wendy would love. So support worker Amy snapped it up and Wendy’s smile says it all!
Market Lodge loves a party and the opportunity to dress up and have some fun! We spent a fun filled day doing Halloween activities, a virtual Halloween concert and finished with a scrumptious Halloween tea provided by Lisa and her team.
Market Lodge had an outing to Pumpkin Pete's and bought back a selection of pumpkins to be transformed into soup for all the residents and staff.
Market lodge support worker Lauren has been busy doing oral health training with the Herefordshire Quality Improvement Team and we want to recognise her commitment to our residents and say thank you for all her support with devising person centered oral health care for our unit. Well done Lauren!
A specialist acquired brain injury care centre in Ledbury has been identified as an ‘Approved Provider’ for the second year running.
The accreditation comes from national charity Headway following a remote compliance assessment.
The scheme, ‘Approved Provider’, highlights care services that demonstrate a provision of appropriate specialist care for those with complex, physical and cognitive impairment due to acquired brain injury.
Market Lodge, which provides short and long-stay services for people with acquired brain injuries, has been praised for providing a high standard of care in spite of the challenges faced by COVID-19. The charity assessed areas such as culture, governance and communication, will all ranking even higher than in the 2019 inspection.
“This accreditation not only confirms the high level of care I already know our staff offer at all times, but also highlights the knowledge they have about the purpose and function of the unit.
“Many of our service users at Market Lodge come from the local area, but we have supported people with acquired brain injuries from across the country, whatever their needs, and by having this ongoing accreditation we hope to help an even larger number of people in their time of need.”
Shaw healthcare provides a spectrum of services from comprehensive care packages through to low level support in the community for older people and adults with physical, sensory or mental health support needs.
