Llys Hafren residents, families & friends enjoyed raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We had a cake & coffee sale, Joan was lucky to win the ‘ PINK ‘ Hamper and we later enjoyed music by John.
We celebrated with Jane today who was nominated for Employee of the Month for stepping into the senior domestic post when there was a need.
Residents enjoyed listening and dancing with singer from the 19940’s event in town, who came to the home.

Our Employee of the Month is Ang (team leader )for her excellence to the service. We surprised Ang on Saturday during a Country fayre!
Lesley, our lovely support worker made this lovely accessory to support Joan bringing all the little personal items with her when she goes around the home. Joan is thrilled with it.

Llys Hafren residents enjoyed a morning of games and music with family members joining in a game of dominoes.
Betty wanted to keep busy by helping clean some table mats followed by flower arranging.
Last week we celebrated with two of our lovely team who have been here for some years, as they leave to start their nursing journey.
These two ladies, came to work here at Llys Hafren with no prior care experience. As with previous care staff who show a desire to flourish and go further, we support mandatory training, and then on to diplomas in healthcare.
Maddie and Annabelle both interviewed well for their nurse training and have started this week.
These ladies are not the first here to be offered nursing placements, last year’s nurse trainee was also here for a few years.
The feedback from her matron was the standards we set here are very high, and they were impressed with her on her induction.
Well done both!

Several residents enjoyed time in the garden on such a lovely day! They were amazed how successful their vegetable garden has been this year, their marrows are looking lovely.

Llys Hafren residents enjoyed a trip to Barmouth, they enjoyed fish & chips for dinner followed by spending some 2p’s in the arcade! Peter went on a ride which took him straight back to his childhood memories. We then enjoyed an icecream by the sea. 🌊 🍦

Linda Windsor is our employee of the month, Linda has recently been visiting residents in hospital in her own time, well done.
Residents have been requesting more budgies for some time, sadly we lost one of the budgies with age last week, so now have surprised them with two baby budiges.
Llys Hafren residents had a fantastic day spent at Aberystwyth beach, the sun was shining for us, we enjoyed fish and chips followed by an ice cream!
Residents sat and watched the D-Day service, chatted about their memories and enjoyed the lovely cakes.
Llys Hafren residents have had a busy couple of days making bird feeders and enjoying playing games in the sun.
On Saturday 11th May we officially opened the Garden Room, we were pleased that the High Sherriff of Powys, Mayor Nick and Katherine took time out to attend.
The weather held beautifully for the event! Residents, families and staff sang along to a compilation of songs with Nick singing three songs, what a fabulous day was had.
The Garden Room was donated by our cook Jean, in memory of her husband Nigel.
Our lovely Gerry (maintenance man) is also a DJ and kindly put music on a compilation of music selected by Lizzie (admin).
Familes brought their children, and games were placed on the lawns for a really lovely day.
Residents also took part in the opening of our Forget me Not garden. We had a bench donated recently by Maureen whose mum recently passed away.
The ground was planted with wild flower seeds that will support the environment, bees, and butterflies.
Residents had a wonderful time dancing and taking to the Mic to sing the aray of songs John the entertainer arranged for them. We also enjoyed planting vegetables and flowers!
Many of our lovely residents enjoyed an afternoon tea dance, music across the eras and concluding with a conga.
Two of our very enthusiastic train experts had an afternoon on the Llanfair Caerinion train, both these lovely men used to drive the trains on this line.
Residents started to get their garden room painted in preparation for the opening next week.
Later on in the week residents got ready to use their new room, now painting the smaller details they have chosen.
Ted and Peter were very enthusiastic about painting the new raised planter in readiness for the bedding plants.

We celebrated a birthday at Llys Hafren recently! Sylvia was emotional when her birthday cake came out and everyone sang to her, including her husband next to her.
Llys Hafren residents have had a fun packed weekend. Easter raffle, Easter bingo, crafts and a fun Easter egg hunt!
However before all of the Easter fun, residents visited the room for reflection on Good Friday.
We also celebrated an Employee of the Month. Cheryl was nominated by nine of her team members for Employee of the Month. Well done Cheryl!
Llys Hafren had a visit from the animal man, everyone enjoyed seeing all the animals also petting and holding them.

Llys Hafren ladies have had a busy weekend celebrating Mother’s Day, we’ve been busy crafting, flower arranging and been pampered.
Residents at Llys Hafren really enjoyed this weeks cooking club, we made welsh cakes for St David's Day and they were very tasty!
Kerry has been presented with Employee of the Month. Kerry is a role model for her cheerful, helpful disposition.
We have had a very kind gift from Edith’s family, they donated a mural the picture of which was chosen by residents.

Llys Hafren residents enjoyed this weeks cookery club, we made sausage rolls! Colin made his own sausage rolls with a mixture of different spices.
This week’s cookery class was a great success, the residents all enjoyed them at tea time!
Residents were please that we have today displayed the new names of their units, the names which were chosen by them late last year.
June was also pleased to meet little Jem today. June then recalled how she used to have poodles, and how much she loves little dogs.
Residents at Llys Hafren enjoyed the Big Garden Bird Watch weekend, we saw lots of different species of birds, and squirrels.
Residents also enjoyed Haggis for Burns Night tea.

Residents enjoyed a cookery session. We made jam tarts and we enjoyed tasting them afterwards too!
The salon was also open today for nails pampering.

Residents enjoyed a Boxing day quiz, testing them on Christmas theme question, our quiz maters are Lesley and Maddie.
Residents were entertained by the local school children who sang a lovely selection of Christmas Carols.
Our Nativity play & carol singing was a resounding success which was organised by Linzi, our Activities Champion.
Residents & staff played their parts beautifully and the event was attended by many friends and relatives who stayed for refreshments and cakes. We all had a great time.
It was a full house last Saturday when we hosted our Christmas Fete. There were lots of stalls, music and fun which was enjoyed by our fabulous residents, friends, families and staff. We even had an early visit from Santa!
Lesley was nominated as Employee of the Month, for her commitment to her role and for her over and above attention to her residents she works for.

One of our staff members daughter brought in three dachshunds dogs to bring joy to our doggy lovers. Marjorie used to have this breed of dog and could not resist cuddling!
Our lovely cooks really have done us proud, with bonfire fairy cakes for tea tonight on bonfire night, yummy.
Residents enjoyed a visit from a family member bringing in their new baby. We loved giving her lots of cuddles!

Marjorie and Margaret have made such close friendship, spending time with Millie snuggled on the bed, whilst knitting and reading.

Our lovely ladies in our Knit and Natter group got festive and started making Christmas decorations.
To round up the week we joined in with a pub quiz which supported people living with dementia.
We had a lovely delivery from Mandy, who works at Tesco’s for our residents. Hair dryer and shaving sets, so appreciated.
Ted enjoyed his trip out to the 1940’s weekend, he is always talking about his time in the war. So was very pleasantly surprised to see these, a few emotional tears too.
Resident had fun dancing and singing to 1940’s music, they really got into the swing!
Residents were entertained on Sunday with the lovely singer Jeep, he kindly snag a lovely set of 1940’s songs to entertain. Thank you!
The rain came for our fete and dog show, which had to be held inside the home, but we all still had lots of fun!
The rain did not stop residents enjoying the dogs on show and the larger dogs, activity co ordinators Linzi and Zoe!
Gill and Hayley, were jointly nominated for Employees of the Month for their support working in the kitchen when staffing was low. Well done to both of you.
Iss requested when moving into Llys Hafren that he would love to go to Powys Castle and have a look around the grounds, as he had never been before.
Today Iss went on a visit, and was amazed at the grounds and the finery inside the Castle.
Residents and their families, along with employees and their families enjoyed a Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Competitions and games in the theme of Alice in Wonderland made children think about the funny clues. A great time was had by all!

A lovely little puppy called Freddie came with one of the team, (Alison his human mum) on Sunday to bring smiles to all.
Freddie is described as adorable and a pocket rocket, as he was very lively. We took many a blurred photo of him he was so fast!
Margaret just finished knitting this lovely cardigan! Well done Margaret, it looks nice and warm just in time for September..
Residents enjoyed a craft session today! We made hats for our upcoming Alice in Wonderland Day and our Mad Hatters competition.
Our residents have been following the life cycle of the butterfly puppa, to them hatching and now today to releasing them outside.
Residents enjoy their gardening area and chose to release them there.
Residents and staff ay Llys Hafren had great fun throwing the hoop, and there was no cheating either! Megan also had a great time dancing and singing with staff, whilst Yvonne, was really good at throwing the bean bag and getting it into the bucket. Yvonne hardly missed, and had lots of goes.
Residents watched this morning the puppa opening and the butterflies coming out.
They then put fruit into the netted cage for them to eat.
Two lovely employees have been presented with their Five Year Award. Amazing achievement, well Ang Reader and Hayley Jones.
We also enjoyed flower arranging with the lovely colours and some word puzzles.

Colin, who is a serious train enthusiast had a day on the local steam train. Some years ago Colin used to drive the trains, many of his friends came as they knew he was coming.

Today we celebrated Lesley’s 5 year anniversary at Llys Hafren.
Staff helped by sending in photos to add to a celebration board.
Residents spent time at our beach, adding new shells brought in and filling the bucket and adding to the water area.
Our residents were really interested in a presentation from Robert, who is a board member at Llanfair Light Railway. After his presentation Robert chatted to residents individually who had questions about the changes to the railway. One resident Colin (in picture left, with Robert on the right), is a very serious train enthusiast.
Our residents were entertained by John who came to play keyboard and sing. Residents got up and boogied away!

Our lovely Maddie has been presented with employee of the month, she is always so cheerful, positive and a great person to have on our team.
One of our staff members went to the beach and brought shells back to have a chat with our residents on the dementia unit. In addition to shells she brought back a large spider crab. Residents were amazed, this conversation brought lots of chatter and laughter. Residents had a naming chat and decided Cedrick was a good name for the crab.
Residents enjoyed a lovely Coronation Buffet over the weekend and here's are two of our residents cutting the Coronation cake, on the left Sylvia and on the right Joyce Willan. Joyce will be 102 years old in the autumn.
For Joyce this is her sixth monarch; when she was born the monarch was King Edward 7th and Queen Alexander, Edward died in 1930. In 1930 George 5th became King and Mary was his Queen. In 1937 the Duke of York became king George 6th, at this time the late Queen Elizabeth was 7years old.. King Geroge was king for 15 years, and his Queen consort was the Queen mother. King George passed away on 6th February 1952, whilst the young Princess Elizabeth was on holiday in Africa at Tree tops. Princess Elizabeth returned to England as Queen Elizabeth 11. Prince Charles became King after the death of our beloved late Queen Elizabeth 11 in 2022.
Joyce sat throughout the Coronation day, fixed avidly to the Coronation procession, talking about the other Coronations she has watched and who had been involved.
Residents enjoyed feeding a lamb, it brought back many joyful memories for some of our farming residents.
Residents, employees, friends and families all thoroughly enjoyed the opening of our beach garden. Cutting the ribbon were Mary and Isobel our lovely residents off the dementia unit. To make this day even more special we had Mr Popples' Punch and Judy show, donkeys Rosie and Charlotte and ice creams as well as a picnic for everyone! Music was also provided courtesy of DJ Gerry who is the Maintenance Operative at the home.

Residents had fun at their valentines dinner, we decided to wear the table hearts. Our lovely Colin and Ewan were suited up to celebrate a lovely valentines dinner, they really enjoyed the event.
The sun was shining so Rhoda was offered a stroll around our lovely garden, a pause for a cup of tea in the Bea hive!
Residents enjoyed the lovely entertainer John, who visited this week. Many got up for a boogie! Residents also met our new therapy pup and decided to name it Fiddles.
Carol was delighted to open our new room. She was very surprised, and could not get over how lovely it is. The new room will provide a hairdressing, sensory stimulation and relaxation sessions.
Residents had a "hoot" bird watching this week as part of the RSPB bird watch.

Residents and families had a great time at our Christmas fayre on Saturday. We were honoured that Santa could come, with his pixies and Mrs Claus. A lovely £392 was made for our lovely residents.

Staff at a Llys Hafren care home in Welshpool were so determined to give their residents a wonderful Christmas this year, despite the on-going pandemic, that a group of carers got together and wrote and acted out their own version of the Nativity.
It is always to lovely for the staff to hear great feedback. This wonderful compliment really gave the staff at Llys Hafren a boost. A very big thank you to the Robinson family.
